Aloha, SunEscaper!
You may recall that, last week, we instituted a new column called WTH! What The Hat? to document the utterly ridiculous and unwearable headwear that comes down the runway at the different fashion shows. Last week we saw a bejeweled soccer ball from Junya Watanabe’s RTW Spring 2013 line.
Up this week: John Galliano Ready To Wear Spring 2013 and the purple, furry haze that accompanied the “architectural, sculpted” pieces with “geisha notes” that “breathed fresh air into the brand,” according to the WWD review.
I don’t know about a “breath of fresh air” as the WWD reviewer put it, but I am definitely feeling a Japanese influence…
New creative director at Galliano, Bill Gaytten, incorporated Japanese touches and architectural details into his new pieces. However, his oversized, furry hats and that unflattering, shapeless kimono-style coat remind me of the get up the character The Witch of the Waste wore in Hiyao Miyazaki’s Japanese Animation film, Howl’s Moving Castle.
I can only imagine how this is supposed to translate to a wearable version when it trickles down to the stores.
What do you think of Galliano’s furry concoctions?
They sure to shade from the sun, but wouldn’t a normal ETSIS Hat look much more wearable and chicer for protecting yourself from the sun?
Happy SunEscaping!
